    John Deere 40, 420 and 430 tractors have many different models (variations). Each model has a letter which is on the serial number tag after the model number. These are the letters for each model:
    • Crawler designation is a "C"
    • Hi-Crop designation is a "H"
    • Special Utility designation is an "I"
    • Standard designation is "S"
    • Tricycle designation is a "T"
    • Utility designation is a "U"
    • Special designation is a "V"
    • Row-Crop Utility designation is a "W"
    For example, if your serial number tag has "420 - W," then your tractor is a 420 Row-Crop Utility.

    There are six models (variations) of the John Deere 1010 tractor. Each model has a set of letters on the serial number tag to identify the model. There are the letters for each model:
    • Grove Orchard = OR
    • Row-Crop = RC
    • Single Row-Crop = RS
    • Row-Crop Utility = RU
    • Row-Crop Utility Special = RUS
    • Utility = UT
    The model designation is on the serial number tag between the "1010" and the serial number. The serial number tag is located on the right hand side of the block between the oil filter and the generator.
